About Frederick Biro

Canadian fiction author Frederick Biro at his home outside Toronto, Canada.

Frederick Biro is a Canadian author, residing in the Toronto, Ontario area. He had a number of short stories published and two plays optioned before his first novel, The Perfect Circus, was shortlisted for the Seal First Novel award. It was published in 1987, along with The Seventh Year of the Manna Bird, co-authored with Lou Vertolli. Icarus, his third novel, was published the year after.

The novels are quite different. Mr. Biro says this was unintentional. He simply writes based on an idea or concept. He says the novels are successful when the characters take over and he is the conduit to tell their stories.

This is what has driven him to return to fiction writing; a strong desire to complete the journey that he commenced with the individuals populating his books.

In the intervening years, Mr. Biro published works on governance and police-related matters including co-authoring a report from 2000, entitled: Police Executives under Pressure: A Study and Discussion of the Issues. He also wrote and presented on pension-related matters nationally and internationally, the result of a 22-year involvement with a leading defined benefit pension plan in Canada. Recently, he had a first-person piece appear in The Globe and Mail, entitled: Now I have time, I’m sorting through the soundtrack of my life.
