Finally (well, almost finally...)

This is (with any luck) my last blog before The Perfect Circus/Redux sees the light of day. All the pieces are in place. It’s now just a matter of hitting the metaphorical button and releasing it to the world.

Yes, look out world – another depressing apocalyptic novel headed your way. Definitely out in April. I will let you know the exact date shortly.

Enjoy!

Suffice to say, this has been a long journey. I began the re-write several years ago and was preparing for self-publishing as early as 2022 (it was COVID after all; lots of time on my hands). However, ultimately, along the way I learned two very important things about myself.

The first: I believe I am a good writer. This is a view backed up by being a traditionally published author as well as having my work on various topics appear in a number of journals. However, I am next to hopeless when it comes to mastering anything remotely connected to the internet and/or social media. Visually, it’s like turning a corner and running headfirst into a brick wall.

I don’t believe it’s just because I’m a certain age. I know many individuals of a similar vintage who navigate the complexities of webpages and online programs as easily as I navigate the area pathways during my morning walk. Unfortunately, for me it is akin to having my thoughts scrambled to the point where I gladly retreat and return to the solace of writing.

The second is I am a world class procrastinator. There, I’ve said it. I openly admit it. I am easily sidetracked, something which is relatively new. For those that remember the wonderful movie Up think of Dug (the dog) who throughout, is distracted by yes, you guessed it, a squirrel.

Apparently there are many, many squirrels in my life.

This morning I sat down to write this blog. Then, the latest election news (in Canada) came up on my mobile telephone. Well, that was important, and I certainly had to catch up on that! That was followed by several telephone calls, an invitation to play scrabble online, and a quick visit to the bank. And look at that – it’s lunchtime.

So what was scheduled to be an early hours undertaking was muscled aside until late this afternoon (and I’d better finish this quickly as a fascinating sporting event is supposed to start shortly). Unfortunately, this is not uncommon for me.

As I’ve said, I’ve learned two important things about myself. It’s not traditionally a time for new year resolutions, but I am determined to do better. I have the sequel for The Perfect Circus/Redux on track for a Summer release. It is my commitment to you that it will appear on time (and if it’s not, I will have no one to blame but myself).

I am also resolved to becoming more adept at mastering self-publishing and the online world.

As always, thank you for going on this journey with me. I appreciate your support and your interest in my writing. Suffice to say, I welcome any comments you may have.
