Hello, welcome and thank you for visiting my website and reading this blog. It’s exciting for me to get to this point; and frankly, just a little bit scary. I’ve always been a (relatively) confident writer. During my career, I’ve had short stories published, plays optioned and was fortunate in having three published novels. In addition, I was a professional speechwriter in the political realm (a friend of mine is convinced that is where I learned to write fiction), and as set out briefly in my biography wrote numerous articles and papers related to my professional career.
So, why is it scary?
It’s because this is a forum which I am not used to or comfortable with (yet). Case in point, even though I’m on Twitter (sorry, can’t call it X), I remain atrociously poor at social media (so thank you for my couple of hundred followers - you are the best! And the most patient!). In fact, if not for Good AF Consulting essentially ‘holding my hand’ and walking me through this, I’m not sure I would ever be able to navigate the social media environment sufficiently to reach this point, or even self-publish.
And frankly, I think that would be a shame. Let me elaborate.
As I’ve said elsewhere, my characters are the reason I write. When I first became a fiction author in my early thirties, I would start with an idea and from that would flow an entire world, populated by characters that took me on their journey. As an example, I remember well, about halfway through one of my books, I tried to manipulate my characters into the plot I had conceived. Several chapters later, I gave up. I tore up a week of work (and in those days, I was using an electric typewriter), and returned to a point where the characters were true to themselves.
That is why I have returned to writing. I want to finish their stories. All of them. They have given me great pleasure and I want to see where their journeys take them. I hope others, whether they are fans from a long time ago, or new readers drawn to their stories, share the ride with me. The first novel will be The Perfect Circus - Redux, coming soon. The artwork as presented on this site, was created by Julia Brevetti. She is a wonderful artist, and I believe she did a marvellous job in capturing the world I created. She can be reached at juliabrevetti98@gmail.com.
I will use this blog to update you on my progress, hopefully create some interest, and also as a forum for input, commentary, and the sharing of ideas with both the writing community and with readers. My intent is to update the blog on a regular basis, and as I progress, perhaps include some photographs or even snippets of stories on my website.
As I said at the outset, exciting, and still a little scary.
Thank you again for your interest and support.
